To observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence.

How often do we observe without letting the mind become entangled and in charge of what see and feel? Continue reading “Inspiration for the week - Observing”
5:00PM - Sorry friends, it is raining - very hard and lightning already. I think we better call it off for today. There is next week and a bunch of Thursdays left in the summer so don’t despair. See you next week!
4:40PM - Hmm, weather advisory in effect 50% chance of severe thunderstorms. I will definitely be there but we will have to play it by ear.
4:00PM - Class on! It is warm so please bring water to keep hydrated. We will move at a slower pace and find some balance between the air temperature and our inner heat. See you there!
____________
9:00AM - Don’t let gray skies darken your day. Consider the gloom outside as a chance to let your inner light shine brighter.
Outdoor Yoga is on - as of now. Weather.com offers us 40% chance of thunderstorms at 6PM - that leaves room for 60% optimism that we can have a nice practice on the grass before the thunder clouds roll in.
Check back around 4PM for an update and in the meanwhile cast your own sunshine on those around you.

Allison Gemmel is a luminous spirit who teaches Yoga, drums with the KDZ Band at Kripalu, creates jewelry and has some wonderful workshops coming up.
Allison and I have shared at least one teacher, that I know of, and I am certain that if you like my teaching style you will love hers. She has completed her 500 hour Professional Level training at Kripalu which I hope to ultimately include in my path and have the chance to study more with her. I am often asked for tips on getting to sleep. Are there any poses that will help? Is there a breath technique that will get me to sleep?
I do not believe Yoga can cure insomnia but many Yoga practices can facilitate shut eye and a good restorative repose.
I often recommend, even to my 12 year old daughter, legs up the wall pose for 15 minutes before sleep. For a how to go here. Continue reading “Yoga tips for Insomniacs”
10:15PM Update
A wonderful group of students came to Outdoor Yoga. The sky was cloudless, the grass was soft and inviting, the sun shined and a breeze cooled us. Best of all were the dozen or so bright smiles and warm hearts. I left feeling awed, energized, humbled and grateful. Really, I did. Thank you all.
We have now raised $120.00 for P.E.T.A.
_____
Hooray, we waited out and pressed through Mother Nature’s Thursday thunder storms and here we are with a gorgeous day.
Clear blue skies, low humidity and a nice breeze will be our setting for tonight’s class.
Bring a smile, bring a friend, see you there!
My friend and fellow Kripalu Yoga teacher, Ronnie Oster Falkenburg now has a bio here.
