The Businessman and the Fig Tree

He claims it was ‘a Yoga moment’ that inspired him to spare the life of a 140 year old fig tree. Read it here.

Julia Butterfly Hill might smile to read that story.

Who is Julia Butterfly Hill? You might remember her as the ‘fanatic’ that sat in a tree for a few years to save it’s life. If a woman full of love and commitment to the life of another living thing makes her a fanatic, then I agree. Read about her here or better yet, read her book The Legacy of Luna, it is one of my favorite books of all time.

4PM Update – It’s a gorgeous afternoon!

Grab your mat and a water bottle and come enjoy practice on the grass….remember we only have TWO sessions left!

___
Weather.com gives us a forecast of partly cloudy and 10% chance of rain at 6PM tonight. Well, it also says 10% chance of rain for right now – this light misting outside might be considered 10% rain 90% not.

Let’s go with the flow, friends. Check back at 4PM for an update. And if you won’t be near a computer, feel free to call me to get a class status.

In the meantime, welcome Ann Russell’s to our online Yoga family, check out her bio and maybe even leave a comment for her. (scroll down)

Cleaner and Greener from the Goldfish People

A green thumbs up to Pepperidge Farms for converting a portion of their energy use in the Connecticut factory to fuel cells. The decision will no doubt save the cracker company some dough but that shouldn’t overshadow their earth friendly practices. Let’s hope that other companies will follow these fish.

Read it here.

Welcome Ann Russell, K.Y.T.A., R.Y.T. – 500hr to the blog!!!

Long before I had the pleasure of meeting Ann, I was familiar with her reputation as a wonderful and compassionate Yoga teacher. In various Yoga circles and studios I had heard about her classes. When I did meet her she was managing the old Yoga Sensations. I was excited and a little nervous to meet this highly regarded Kripalu Yoga Teacher Extraordinaire. Within seconds of sharing her company, easy smile, warm eyes and mostly her realness, I felt right at home in the studio, with her and with myself.

She is also famous for giving the community a Thanksgiving class that packed Yoga Sensations all the way out to the stairs. (Yes, Ann, your students are still talking about it and I still love hearing their sweet memories!)

Click here to read her bio or get her contact info.

Ann will post her schedule soon – stay tuned or contact her to try out her class if you haven’t had the pleasure yet!

Hi-Tech Yoga

A teacher of mine advised students to practice as close to nature as possible. He even suggested that rubber Yoga Mats – even the Natural, PVC Free, or Jute models were no good because they are a barrier to our contact with the Earth thus inhibiting our reception of prana or vital life force.

I wonder what he thinks of this new concept in Yoga Mats. While I think I would pass on the chance to own one, maybe it would make a hard core techie type feel more at home on the mat. Check it out here.
