Yoga & the Pro Athlete

During his summer workouts Boston Bruin’s goaltender, Tim Thomas wanted to explore new ways to improve his overall conditioning and flexibility. With a “why not give it a try?” attitude he began practicing Yoga.

Observers say Thomas looks like a new goalie this year, he credits it to Yoga. He is currently in the top 3 goalies in the league this season with .950 save percentage. Read the whole article here.

Of course, Sports fans who are critics of Yoga, may call out the currently tenuous credibility of Ricky Williams or Barry Zito’s less than stellar end of season. Particularly after the two athletes publicly credited Yoga for their superior athletic performance.

Let’s remember Yoga is not a magic pill and after all athlete’s are human beings with multidimensional lives and unique personal challenges.
