Yoga and Cancer in the News

January 7th, 2008

Guru Ramdev claims to have cured hundreds of cancer patients, not with Yoga alone but with non-traditional and allopathic treatments. He says he has documented 35 cases so far and has been challenged by India’s version of the AMA to put his system through clinical trials.

While it is unclear whether the ‘challenge’ is being legitimized by the Indian Medical Association, if it does happen, I think this will be an interesting story to follow. He supposedly has three years to complete the trials, maybe we can look forward to some empirical evidence relating to Yoga and health?

Just in case this news link leaves you in a quandary of skepticism or faith. Here’s a great blog read addressing both science and ‘belief’ but in the end you will still have to decide for yourself how much of each gives you the peace of mind required for your well being.

Here the IMA calls Ramdev’s work quackery.

Even if skeptical is name calling really useful or even professional in supporting their theories? Of course the guru had his own criticism that doctors actually make people sick. You decide.
