Cool Tool to View the Miraculous Spine

I have said it before, this kind of thing excites and interests me. So, when I stumbled onto a Chiropractors website and was intrigued by the “Spine Simulator”, it felt like Christmas!

This is one of the coolest web tools I have seen for understanding the anatomy of the spine. It is very interactive, if you visit be sure to click on the small images below the big picture to see alignment in postures like sitting standing, driving, etc. Clicking on words will often take the viewer to close ups and animations of human movement.

Click here to check out the Spine Simulator.

If anatomy is of interest you may like this post too.

Inspiration – Coping with Change and Imbalance

From the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association Newsletter…

Quote of the Day

” can’t live with change if there’s not a changeless core inside them. The key to the ability to change is a changeless sense of who you are, what you are about, and what you value.” –Stephen Covey

Also from the newsletter, an excerpt from Kripalu Yoga Teacher, David Morgan’s blog:

Yoga helped me pick through the many layers of bipolar disorder to see that my wild mood swings stemmed almost always from an unhappiness that my life wasn’t going the way I thought it should, that my existence was meaningless, that I couldn’t ever meet the expectations of family and society even if I tried, and that I felt trapped.

Yoga opened the trap, allowing the sensitive, creative (sometimes angry) me to step out and find a constructive voice. This is the jewel hidden in the bipolar curse–the ability to live life more fully, allowing my vulnerability and sensitivity to bubble to the surface as a strength rather than a weakness.

Dew Yogi of the Month – Sara Jamison

Meet Sara, Yogi of the month for November. Sara is a well practiced and loved member of many communities from Yoga to her professional communities, The Bi-cultural Day School, book groups and more. She brings loads of energy, honesty and a genuine interest in learning and growth to all those she encounters. Sara and I have had time to connect through Yoga as well as off the mat and has been a gift to me in both regards. She sets an excellent example to all of us to continue to grow and expand our life learnings. Thank you Sara for being both student and teacher.

Sara
I asked her the usual questions, here is what she had to say.

Q:How long have you been practicing Yoga?
A:I began practicing yoga 10 years ago when my fist child was born and then began to practice on a regular basis when I was pregnant with my 3rd child, six years ago. Having children inspired me to take better care of myself, especially my body. It was humbling to see that I just couldn’t push myself the way I used to. I needed to center myself. When I leave class I feel greater clarity and ability to access and use the wisdom that is inside of me.

Q:What fills your time off the mat? Continue reading “Dew Yogi of the Month – Sara Jamison”

So Glad I am Not Alone…

It was quite encouraging to read this on CNN today. Obama also said: “Our preference would be to get a shelter dog.”

Read my post from Tuesday about Bruno and you will understand why I feel validated by our new President. It’s an issue not likely to arise campaign time but certainly an important act of consciousness and responsibility.

Thank you Obama for setting a good example for the nation by considering a shelter pet to join your family in the White House.

Dew Yoga Nidra for Bruno and the Stamford Animal Shelter

Dew Yoga
Dew Yoga students contributed to a generous donation for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by practicing Yoga Nidra each month for the last 4 months.

We have decided to choose another charitable cause for the next several months. The next Yoga Nidra “Relax for Charity” will be held Friday, November 21, 6:00-6:45pm. See the Dew Yoga site for more details and information about the highly restorative practice of Yoga Nidra.

Keep reading to understand why this effort will be in memory of my dog friend, Bruno. These are words of my own personal experience and opinions, I share them with you because I personally hope we can evolve as more humane and responsible friends of animals.

This is Bruno.
Bruno

Last Friday we had to say good bye to Bruno for his health was failing in ways that made it inhumane to extend his life with the marvels of modern medicine. Although he had 8 years on earth, he spent only a few of those in our home.

The story as we were told, is that he was purchased from a breeder and lived quite the pampered life in a mansion on Long Island. Even though he had the full time attention of a live in house keeper and the best medical care available, his human decided he could no longer take care of him and delivered him back to the breeder. Did You Know Charlie Brown and P-Mint Patty do Yoga!

We have yet to recruit Snoopy and Woodstock but there is still time.

Look how talented, creative and handy is Yogini Sue!

She tried to brush it off saying, “it’s just paper-mache” and “I have the time”.

Sorry Sue, but with all the time, newspaper, flour and water in the world I still could not transform my family into a life size Peanuts Halloween special guest starring CowGirl Adorable.

Next year, I know who to call for costume assistance.

Peanuts!

Inspiration – Wild Geese

Yogini Nancy at the Y asked me about today’s reading from Mary Oliver. Here it is and it also on the Yoga Readings page here.
wild and free
Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on. Continue reading “Inspiration – Wild Geese”
