Kudos Westport – No More Plastic Bags!

As of today plastic shopping bags have been banned in Westport, CT! Click here to read it in the Advocate.

Let’s hope the state follows suit. Time to spend the 99 cents per bag and purchase those super strong, extra large, green, recycled bags that all the grocery stores are selling.

Let me tell you, I use them and they are so much better. There is no concern for the handles tearing and the apple sauce crashing to the driveway on your way in. Besides that Grade-A offers a credit on your bill per bag you use, you just feel better about leaving the store knowing you haven’t put another plastic bag in a landfill.

Know why that makes me feel good? Look at this and learn the real cost of plastic bags. Or more from my last blog on the topic.

Elysa’s Other Job

On Thursdays you won’t find Elysa on the schedule at Dew. It’s the day she works herself ragged out of loving kindness and for no pay.

You can read more about her labor of love in the recent Stamford Times article.

“When the Wilson Food Pantry opened its doors three and a half years ago, Gumbus was catering to an average of 200 families a week living in the Stamford area. But as the economy sunk, Gumbus saw the amount of families in need of emergency aid increase dramatically. There are now 500 individuals who take advantage of the pantry’s free assistance every week, she said.

“It’s getting progressively worse,” said Elysa DeMartini, a Stamford resident who has been volunteering with the pantry for more than a year.”

Dew Yogi of the Month – Ginnie Masson

Meet Ginnie! She has been a source of comfort, wisdom, strength and sunshine to all who have known her over the years wherever she has been practicing Yoga. It is really an honor to honor her this month. Join us also in wishing her a Happy Birthday!
Ginnie

Q: How long have you been practicing Yoga?

A: 42 years. Started when my second child turned one. My waning vitality revived. I gained 3 pounds and went from a size 10 dress to a size 6 in 6 months. I was sold on yoga for life!

Q: What fills your time off the mat?

A: Learning the new skills required to manage the duties my late husband used to handle for 50 years.

For well over 20 Years I have served on the Board of the Re-Entry Ministry, a non-denominational, Christian drug and alcohol rehabilitation home for women. As time permits, I am returning to the work I had to set aside during my husband’s illness, of helping the ministry relocate after having its campus-like property taken by the City of Bridgeport by Right of Eminent Domain.
