Spur of the Moment Beach Yoga – Tonight!

Beach Yoga Tuesday 8/25
6:15pm West Beach – All are welcome
West Beach, Stamford, CT

Beach Yogayoga on the sand

I had a revelation today. Since Mother Nature has not been cooperating with my “schedule” of outdoor classes, I humble myself to the power of nature and have decided to be cooperative with nature.

That means, since the weather forecast for Tuesday, is sunny, clear and less than 80 degrees for the evening, we are having “Spur of the Moment” Beach Yoga.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to join me at West Beach at 6:15pm for practice on the sand in the far corner away from the parking lot where it is quieter (facing the water – that will be all the way to the right).

Parking nearby without a permit is available. Directions below.

Fun Yoga on the sand, breathe, flow, move and groove with us.
Bring a blanket AND beach towel or mat.
Sun screen and insect repellent if you find it supportive.
An open mind & a smile!
A willingness to feel the sand on your toes is useful too!

Payment & registration NOT required. Karma donations of kindness, dollars, hugs or even some good vibes will be appreciated.

Directions & Parking Scoop

Option 1: If you have a park permit please use the entrance to West Beach on Shippan Avenue(it is not marked on the map but trust me it is there!). Here is a Google Map with directions from Summer Street. You can drag the beginning marker to the location of your starting point.

Option 2 Parking without a permit: Continue past West Beach on Shippan Avenue and turn left onto Iriquois Rd. Follow Iriquois all the way to the end & you will be facing a grassy hill, the beach is on the other side of the hill. Park on the street near or around Brennans Restaurant on Iriquois, Wapawama, Ponus Ave. or Rippowam. The beach is very close and can be accessed by the paved foot path that wraps around and over the grassy hill. Google Map

Be sure to read the post “Gratitude” which is thanks to all of you.

Elysa Makes Chia Video Blog

Chia, the newest to join the ’super foods’ little known for it’s incredible nutritional value and famous for it’s ability to sprout into the Chia Pet we so longed to buy from TV. Was it the wonder of growing something so simply or that catchy jingle?

On advice from Xell Calderer, Elysa added chia seed to her diet. And then she made some for me. Being a vegetarian, I was quickly interested in the high protein supplement which also boasts, calcium, potassium, omega fatty acids and plenty of fiber. I found a tablespoon of chia in the morning was better than a cup of coffee with a sustained energy to keep me going through lunch.

The recipe Elysa taught me is demonstrated below but I also put them in the coffee grinder and sprinkle it on cereal, salad or mix it in a glass of juice.

Elysa’s recipe:
1 tbsp Chia seeds
4 tbsps Rice Milk (or any kind of milk, juice, water)
shredded coconut, cranberries, agave nectar
Mix chia and milk and let sit for ten minutes. When mixture thickens and becomes gelatinous add fruits, sweetner and anything else you like.

Thanks to Jaik for editing and uploading the video for us.

Do the Karma Donations at Dew Yoga Make a Difference?

By Elysa DeMartini

Lately I have been asked “Do the Karma donations make a difference?”
In one simple, beautiful and graceful word, yes! An unequivocable, resounding yes!
No donation is ever to small even if it is just a prayer of gratitude or a kind word or gesture.

For the past three months, we have been holding our Yoga Stimulus class at Dew once a week and have been so grateful to the response. It has been so joyful to be pass on these gifts to the respective places.

I personally take the food and clothing to Wilson Food Pantry every week and watch the circle of life in action. The food goes to the kitchen where, it is put aside for the monthly Sunday dinners that the women prepare to help fund the Pantry and pay the bills. These dinners are open to the public and cost $8 a place. Talk about good food, made from love and for a good cause! You can’t beat it! Southern cooking, in it’s best terms! I lived in North Carolina for 12 years and know a few things about southern cooking and can tell you it’s as close as you can get!

So that bag of rice that you donate, can actually feed 40 people. Do the math, $320 will help Joyce buy the some of the food from The Food Bank, pay a light bill or buy the dolly that will help the volunteers not break their back lifting stock. It may not seem like alot of money, but believe me, to us at the Pantry, it’s a miracle. The food that is not used for Sunday dinners is put on the line and passed out to the clients.

The clothes get put out and are donated to the people directly. The joy to watch mothers get new clothes for their children and themselves is nothing short of beautiful. Women who don’t often get new clothes, due to circumstances beyond their control, get thrilled to receive clothes with tags still on them! “Oh My GOD, there are tags on these!!!” is heard as they come across this as it is a needle in a haystack. These clothes, shoes, toys, sheets, towels are new to them and they are soooooooo very grateful!

We were blessed to receive baby goods and formulas once. It was a special day as a new mother, whose baby was a week old was having problems with finding the right formulas. She practically cried because it was a good bit of formula. I, not being a mom, can vouch that formula is expensive and to find one that works, is costly. imagine not being able to have that ability and dealing with a newborn. I am happy to say the baby is doing very well as is the mom.

The pet supplies, Jen brings to the animal shelter, where they couldn’t be more gracious as they have been affected as well with their funds and supplies being affected due to these economic times.

Every bit helps someone, somewhere. Even if it is just a kind word or gesture. Pay it forward and watch. See how a smile, a hug, a phone call or a kind word can change someone’s day or mood. Then notice how you feel in your heart. A bit lighter, brighter and most definitely more loving to yourself and our world.

Remember, you are a point of light and let your light shine.
