Dew Yoga – Yoga Day USA for Haiti Relief

The totals are in!

Yogi’s from all around Fairfield County came together with big open hearts and raised $2,681.00 for Haiti! Elysa and I will be delivering the donation this week.

Besides the dollars that are much needed in Haiti right now, we have all been gifted to practice together, to find, witness and be the strength of community. It has brought me to tears more than once.

My Dad said it best, “When we make connections with the rest of the world, when our higher self moves to do for others, there is a lift to our spirit.”

As I said yesterday in classes, do not for a second think, “this is not about me.” It is about You and Me and all of us, empowering ourselves to be in service to those who need us most.

Huge thanks and love out to the the studios in the area whose teachers came to join us and encouraged their students to join us at Dew Yoga. This was a beautiful display of Yoga – union.

Dew Yoga – Sun Salutation Workshop

Sun Salutation

Let the Sunshine In Yoga – Sun Salutation In Depth with Elysa DeMartini, RYT
Saturday, February 6, 11am – 12 noon

Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara in Sanskrit) are the core of a Vinyasa style yoga practice. A sun salutation is a series of poses done in succession so that one pose flows into the next. The pace of the flow and how long the poses are held may vary, but the movement is done in accompaniment with the breath. The purpose of the Sun Salutation is to warm up the body for more intense stretches.

This is a refresher workshop designed for a beginner who is ready for a flowing practice and even advanced yogi who would
like to revisit this flow.

Sign up required, please contact Dew Yoga. Minimum 6 students Maximum 12. $20/person or one class card punch.

January Dew Yogi of the Month

Meet Rachel!

This lovely Yogini began practicing with me a few years ago when we held Teen Yoga classes at the Belltown Fire Department. I am grateful to have witnessed her growth and transformation as a Yogi, Middle to High School Student, friend and activist. What Rachel humbly has not mentioned herein, I will shine some light on.

She is one of a select few students that will be traveling to Nicaragua this February with BuildOn to work in the field building a school. She is also a gifted writer, artist and enjoys her place on the Stamford High School volleyball team. Last summer Rachel attended a college for high school students program at Berkeley. I was jealous. I was also proud and inspired by her solo journey during her summer vacation.

Love, cheers and kudos to Yogini Rachel. Thank you for your commitment to Yoga and gracing us with your bright light!.

Yogini Rachel

Q: How long have you been practicing Yoga?

A: I have been practicing yoga for more than three years- since eighth grade.

Q:What fills your time off the mat?

A: I go to Stamford where I run the Stamford High recycling club, I am part of the National Art Honors Society, and I am vice president of global education for our buildOn program. I spend a lot of time with my friends.

Q:How has your Yoga practice affected your life off the mat?

A:
Yoga has helped me become more relaxed and positive off the mat. My concentration has also been much better since I started practicing.

Q: What would you like to share with others about Yoga?

A:People should know that yoga is extremely beneficial both on and off the mat. It really helps mentally and physically. When you do yoga, you just feel better.

If people want to learn more about buildOn, it is an international non profit organization that focuses on community service, global education and sponsorship. There are high schools that have buildOn programs all over the country and students raise money to build schools in developing countries like Nicaragua and Mali. For more in formation you can visit www.buildon.org.
