I have been gifted weekly in class by the presence a lovely lady we can call Yogini Sandi. She is not only a dedicated student of Yoga but also a; Mother, Grandmother, Friend, EMT, volunteer for DAR, and a whole host of other extraordinary things!
She sent me this video (watch it below) of the Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina. The glacier is one of only three in Patagonia that is not retreating like many others due to global warming. Instead this glacier retreats and advances at an equal rate. As snowfall in the Andes becomes ice pack the Perito Moreno glacier advances over a lake, forms a dam until the water pressure becomes so great that it breaks apart in a dramatic and breathtaking event. The glacier’s last rupture occurred in 2006, watch the video below to see it in action. Read more on wikipedia here.
Thank you Sandi, for sending me this link, piquing my curiosity, compelling me to research this thing and learn something new today.
I hesitate to post this wondering if we can really laugh at ourselves and I hope we can. I did!
The creator of “Puppetji”, which would be Sanskrit for “Dear Puppet” has this to say on his blog …
“puppetji.com is up…where you can enjoy more socksangs and things to make you smile- for a happy life. Blessed be the ones who see the humor in all things.
namaste
Sri Puppetji”
If you think this video is a good chuckle, be sure to visit the Puppetji site too. Take it with a light heart and enjoy!
I often remind my students of the very delicate balance of all things; will and surrender, giving and receiving, earth below and the infinite space above, it goes on and on.
So there is also a delicate balance between my crunchy earth loving feet and the mental stimulation I enjoy by connecting to the world through technology.
The statistics are frightening, 3 BILLION plastic bags per day used in China. In an effort to give a damn about the planet, they have been banned from being given away freely.
The city of San Francisco forbid use of plastic bags last year, why haven’t more states followed their lead?
Read the Associated Press summary on Plastic Bag Laws Worldwide here.
On a personal note, a few months ago I switched to using fabric bags I bought at Grade A for $1.00/each. They are so durable and spacious, I find I only need three bags for a weekly shopping trip. The only trick is, remembering to bring them with you when you go to the store.
It’s a sweet little website with gems of Zen wisdom on a daily basis, a Zen Meditation meeting place where you can tune into the meditation space of others around the globe, as well as a resource for great quotes and teachings.
It is so seldom that I get out of town or have a vacation so when Alessandro and I decided to indulge in a few days away to take in the foliage, I resolved to have a mini-break from Yoga asana. That doesn’t mean I stopped practicing Yoga.
Taking a few days away from asana or on-the-mat practice, gently turns my focus to my practice off-the-mat: mindfulness, truthfulness, non-violence, non-attachment, self study, contentment.
It was a truly lovely, inspiring and restful few days. Follow the link to see the pictures and find out if I could truly refrain from asana for 3 days, hover on the photos to understand my thinking…. Continue reading “Pics from the Pocono’s”
