Help From Family

Today Sage, Rich and I hung the curtains and assembled the bench that Alessandro and I ventured to Ikea to buy yesterday.

I am not sure I would take the trip to Ikea in Brooklyn again, it was a bit stressful for me, maybe just stimulation overload. But followed by the Bhakti Kirtan afterward, it was a nice day all in all.

Here are some more photos of the progress at the studio.

Looking more cozy already!

The bath room, still a bit sterile but maybe sterile is good for a restroom? Still looking for the essentials – waste basket and towel dispenser. All in due time.

My Little Trip to Virginia

Was a BIG event for me. Time is flying by and things with the studio are happening so quickly and mostly gracefully so I have had little time to post photos.

If you know me then you know what this is all about. The trip was amazing and I feel more rooted and grounded then ever before in my life.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible, the teachers that subbed my classes, Regina, Elysa and Gail as well as my friends, loved ones and students that have encouraged me to take this step over the last, I don’t know, ten – ok TWENTY years. I was just a little slow to take the leap and I am ever glad I did.

Dew Yogini Does Seva

Seva or selfless service as devotion is a part of Yoga practice. Sometimes selfless service is a calling we observe in people who become activists, advocates, volunteers and community leaders. Some of the greatest make it appear as natural as breathing.

Our very own Dew Yogini Rachel Berkrot makes seva look easy. In fact, it is not Yoga that brought Rachel to practice selfless service, she already had a history of it when she landed in the first Teen Yoga classes years ago.

Right now, while we are here receiving this amazing and powerful snow storm, Rachel is in Nicaragua where a local village is receiving her helping hands as they build a new school.

Read more about it here and as we sip our hot tea and cocoa send Rachel and the other volunteers in La Estrella, Nicaragua lots of love and support.

Dew Yoga – Sun Salutation Workshop

Sun Salutation

Let the Sunshine In Yoga – Sun Salutation In Depth with Elysa DeMartini, RYT
Saturday, February 6, 11am – 12 noon

Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara in Sanskrit) are the core of a Vinyasa style yoga practice. A sun salutation is a series of poses done in succession so that one pose flows into the next. The pace of the flow and how long the poses are held may vary, but the movement is done in accompaniment with the breath. The purpose of the Sun Salutation is to warm up the body for more intense stretches.

This is a refresher workshop designed for a beginner who is ready for a flowing practice and even advanced yogi who would
like to revisit this flow.

Sign up required, please contact Dew Yoga. Minimum 6 students Maximum 12. $20/person or one class card punch.

January Dew Yogi of the Month

Meet Rachel!

This lovely Yogini began practicing with me a few years ago when we held Teen Yoga classes at the Belltown Fire Department. I am grateful to have witnessed her growth and transformation as a Yogi, Middle to High School Student, friend and activist. What Rachel humbly has not mentioned herein, I will shine some light on.

She is one of a select few students that will be traveling to Nicaragua this February with BuildOn to work in the field building a school. She is also a gifted writer, artist and enjoys her place on the Stamford High School volleyball team. Last summer Rachel attended a college for high school students program at Berkeley. I was jealous. I was also proud and inspired by her solo journey during her summer vacation.

Love, cheers and kudos to Yogini Rachel. Thank you for your commitment to Yoga and gracing us with your bright light!.

Yogini Rachel

Q: How long have you been practicing Yoga?

A: I have been practicing yoga for more than three years- since eighth grade.

Q:What fills your time off the mat?

A: I go to Stamford where I run the Stamford High recycling club, I am part of the National Art Honors Society, and I am vice president of global education for our buildOn program. I spend a lot of time with my friends.

Q:How has your Yoga practice affected your life off the mat?

A:
Yoga has helped me become more relaxed and positive off the mat. My concentration has also been much better since I started practicing.

Q: What would you like to share with others about Yoga?

A:People should know that yoga is extremely beneficial both on and off the mat. It really helps mentally and physically. When you do yoga, you just feel better.

If people want to learn more about buildOn, it is an international non profit organization that focuses on community service, global education and sponsorship. There are high schools that have buildOn programs all over the country and students raise money to build schools in developing countries like Nicaragua and Mali.
